NOTES

• Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch

• I used Bernat Maker Home Dec and 5/5.5 mm crochet hook but you can use any yarn/hook you like, using a different weight yarn or crochet hook will change the size of your basket

• This basket is made with two layers, it is meant to be folded inside of itself for stability. You can use plastic canvas or cardboard in between the layers to make for extra stability if you like.

• slst – Slip Stitch
• ch – Chain
• hdc – Half Double Crochet
• dc – Double Crochet
• fpdc – Front Post Double Crochet
• bpdc – Back Post Double Crochet
• blo – Back Loop Only

SIZING

This pattern was written using Bernat Maker Home Dec, my basket measures approximately 4 inches tall and 4 inches wide. 

If you’d like to make a taller basket, you can continue on with the repeated rows until your basket reaches your desired height.

PATTERN

Using 5.5 mm hook, begin with a Magic Ring, ch 1

ROW 1

• hdc 9 into Magic Ring
• slst to beginning hdc (9 stitches)

ROW 2

• ch 1
• 2 hdc in each stitch around
• slst to beginning hdc (18 stitches)

ROW 3

• ch 1
• *hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch*
• Repeat from * to * around
• slst to beginning hdc (27 stitches)

ROW 4

For this row, you will be placing your stitches in the 3rd loop of the hdc’s below. If you are unfamiliar with this technique, you can find a tutorial HERE

• ch 2
• dc in the 3rd loop of each stitch around
• slst to beginning dc (27 stitches)

ROW 5

• ch 2
• *fpdc, bpdc, bpdc*
• Repeat from * to * around
• slst to beginning fpdc (27 stitches)

ROW 6

• ch 2
• *fpdc, dc, dc*
• Repeat from * to * around
• slst to beginning fpdc (27 stitches)

ROW 7 – 12

Repeat Rows 5 and 6

ROW 13

• sc in each stitch around
• slst to beginning sc (27 stitches)

ROW 14

• sc in each stitch around
• slst to beginning sc (27 stitches)

ROW 15

*Switch to 5 mm hook

• sc in the blo of each stitch around
• slst to beginning sc (27 stitches)

ROW 16 – 28

• sc in each stitch around
• slst to beginning sc (27 stitches)

FINISHING

Fasten off and weave in your ends. Fold the sc portion into the basket adding plastic canvas between the layers.
