SKILL LEVEL: INTERMEDIATE
Materials
- Worsted Weight Yarn (Approximately 200 yards) – I used Lion Brand Jeans to make mine
- 6.00 mm Crochet Hook
Notes
- Beginning chain DOES count as a stitch
- Puff stitches are used in this pattern, a puff stitch is completed with a chain 1. In this pattern the puff stitch and completion chain 1 are both included in the puff stitch, any chains listed in the pattern are in addition to the completion chain 1. The Puff Stitches I used when writing this pattern had a total of 4 yarn over’s (you should have 9 loops on your hook before pulling through all loops)
- Stitches will be worked in the ch spaces unless otherwise specified, all other stitches will be skipped.
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- ch – Chain
- dc – Double Crochet
- puff – Puff Stitch
- hdc – Half Double Crochet
- fphdc – Front Post Half Double Crochet
- bphdc – Back Post Half Double Crochet
Sizing
This pattern is written for “average adult size”, but it can easily be adjusted to fit anyone, you can do this in two ways:
- If you want your cowl to be slightly smaller or larger than average adult size: use a smaller hook to make the cowl slightly smaller or a larger hook to make it slightly larger
- If you want your cowl to be substantially smaller or larger than average adult size: the beginning triangle (rows 1-15) is what determines the circumference of the cowl, each row adds about an inch. To make your cowl smaller omit rows, to make it larger add rows. You can also change the height of the cowl by repeating row 18 if you’d like it taller or omitting row 18 if you want it shorter.
