NEEDLES

5 mm Needles /16” Cable

YARN

Weight 4 Yarn

NOTES

  • This pattern was written with Red Heart Super Saver in mind but any Weight 4 Yarn could easily be substituted
  • I was able to complete the decrease portion of the beanie using my 16” cable but if you find it tricky switching to DPN’s may be helpful.

ABBREVIATIONS

  • sts  – Stitches
  • pm – Place Marker
  • k – Knit
  • k2tog – Knit 2 sts Together

SIZING

  • The Child Size version of this pattern will fit an average sized Child’s (4 – 8 year old) head
  • Fits average sized teen or woman’s head (21 – 23 inch circumference)

MODIFICATIONS

If you’d like to turn your beanie into a slouch beanie, add additional repeats in the body section before moving on to the decrease.

PATTERN

CHILD SIZE

BRIM

Cast on 60 sts, pm and and join for working in the round.

ROW 1 – 28

  • k all sts (60 sts)

ROW 29 

Flip bottom of brim through the middle, align next stitch with first cast on stitch, insert left needle through first cast on stitch, pair it with the next stitch and knit together. Continue until all cast on stitches are knit into the hat.

BODY

ROW 30 – 50

  • K all sts (60 sts)

DECREASE

ROW 51

  • *K2tog, k2*
  • Repeat from * to * around (45 sts)

ROW 52

  • *k, k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (30 sts)

ROW 53

  • *k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (15 sts)

FINISHING 

Cut yarn leaving a 10” tail, thread tail through all loops and remove from needles. Cinch closed, fasten off and weave in ends.

ADULT SIZE

BRIM

Cast on 68 sts, pm and and join for working in the round.

ROW 1 – 32

  • k all sts (68 sts)

ROW 33 

Flip bottom of brim through the middle, align next stitch with first cast on stitch, insert left needle through first cast on stitch, pair it with the next stitch and knit together. Continue until all cast on stitches are knit into the hat.

BODY

ROW 34 – 55

  • K all sts (68 sts)

DECREASE

ROW 56

  • *K2tog, k2*
  • Repeat from * to * around (51 sts)

ROW 57

  • *k, k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (34 sts)

ROW 58

  • *k2tog*
  • Repeat from * to * around (17 sts)

FINISHING

Cut yarn leaving a 10” tail, thread tail through all loops and remove from needles. Cinch closed, fasten off and weave in ends.
