YARN

Weight 4 – 120 Yards

For the bag pictured I used Re-Tweed from Lion Brand, any weight 4 yarn could easily be substituted.

HOOK

5.5 mm

ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES

  • Removable Stitch Marker
  • Yarn Needle
  • Scissors

NOTES

  • Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch

ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)

  • slst – Slipstitch
  • ch – Chain
  • sc – Single Crochet
  • hdc – Half Double Crochet

DIMENSIONS

My bag measures approximately 8 inches wide and 8 inches tall. 

PATTERN

ch 20

ROW 1

  • 2 hdc in second ch from hook
  • hdc across
  • 3 hdc in last stitch

*You will now work across the bottom of the chain

  • hdc across
  • hdc in last stitch (the stitch you started the row on)
  • slst to first hdc

ROW 2

  • ch 1
  • hdc around
  • Do not join

ROW 3 – 18

*Rows 3 – 17 will be worked in continuous rounds, meaning you won’t join at the end of each row. Use a stitch marker to mark the first stitch of each round to keep track of the row numbers.

  • hdc around

*Your last stitch in ROW 18 may be off centre from the side of your bag, if it is, continue to hdc until you reach the side

  • At the end of Row 18, join with a slst 

ROW 19 – 20

  • ch 1
  • sc around 
  • slst to beginning sc

STRAP

Ch any number of stitches to reach your desired strap length, join with a slst to the opposite side of your bag, turn and slst along the ch until you reach the base of your ch

FINISHING

Fasten off and weave in ends.
