Materials
- 5.5 mm Hook
- 200 yards Worsted Weight 100% Cotton Yarn
- Removable Stitch Marker
Notes
- Beginning ch does not count as a stitch
- I used Bernat Handicrafter to make the bag pictured but any worsted weight cotton yarn will work fine
Abbreviations (US Terms)
- mr – Magic Ring
- slst – Slip Stitch
- ch – Chain
- sc – Single Crochet
- hdc – Half Double Crochet
Dimensions
My bag measures approximately 11 inches tall, you can make a taller bag by continuing on with the repeated row.
Pattern
Begin with a mr, ch 1
ROW 1
- hdc 10 into mr
- slst to first hdc (10 stitches)
ROW 2
- ch 1
- 2 hdc in each stitch around
- slst to beginning hdc (20 stitches)
ROW 3
- ch 1
- *hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * around
- slst to beginning hdc (30 stitches)
ROW 4
- ch 1
- hdc in next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * around
- slst to beginning hdc (40 stitches)
ROW 5
- ch 1
- hdc in next 3 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * around
- slst to beginning hdc (50 stitches)
ROW 6
- ch 1
- hdc in next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * around
- slst to beginning hdc (60 stitches)
ROW 7
- ch 1
- hdc in next 5 stitches, 2 hdc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * around
- slst to beginning hdc (70 stitches)
ROW 8
- ch 1
- hdc in each stitch around
Do not join, the body of the bag will be made in continuous rounds, use a removable stitch marker to keep track of your row count.
ROW 9 – 25
- hdc in each stitch around
At the end of row 25, slst to the first hdc in the row to join
ROW 26 – 28
- ch 1
- sc in each stitch around
- slst to beginning sc
ROW 29
- ch 1
- sc in the next 10 stitches
- ch 50, skip the next 15 stitches
- sc in the next 20 stitches
- ch 50, skip the next 15 stitches
- sc in the next 10 stitches
- slst to beginning sc
ROW 30 – 32
- ch 1
- sc in each stitch around
- slst to beginning sc
Fasten off and weave in ends.
