Materials

  • Approximately 140 yards of Bernat Maker Home Dec
  • 5.5mm Hook
  • Removable Stitch Marker

Notes

  • Beginning chain does not count as a stitch
  • You can use any yarn/hook you like, I used Bernat Maker Home Dec and a 5.5 mm hook to make the bag pictured

Abbreviations (US Terms)

  • slst – Slip Stitch
  • ch – Chain
  • sc – Single Crochet
  • hdc – Half Double Crochet

Dimensions

Bag dimensions will vary depending on yarn/hook used.

Pattern

Begin with a Magic Ring, ch 1

ROW 1

  • hdc 9 into Magic Ring
  • slst to first hdc (9 stitches)

ROW 2

  • ch 1
  • 2 hdc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning hdc (18 stitches)

ROW 3

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in next stitch, 2 hdc in next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (27 stitches)

ROW 4

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 2 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (36 stitches)

ROW 5

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 3 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (45 stitches)

ROW 6

  • ch 1
  • *hdc in the next 4 stitches, 2 hdc in the next stitch*
  • Repeat from * to * around
  • slst to beginning hdc (54 stitches)

ROW 7

  • ch 1
  • hdc in the same stitch (mark this stitch with a stitch marker)
  • hdc in each stitch around (54 stitches)
  • Do not join

ROW 8 – 19

Rows 8 – 19 are worked continuous row, you will not join at the end of each row, use the stitch marker to keep track of the beginning stitch of each row.

  • hdc in each stitch around (54 stitches)

ROW 20

  • hdc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning hdc (54 stitches)

ROW 21 – 23

  • ch 1
  • sc in each stitch around
  • slst to beginning sc (54 stitches)

ROW 24

  • ch 1
  • sc in the next 8 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch
  • *sc in the next 5 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch* 3 times
  • sc in the next 8 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch
  • *sc in the next 5 stitches, ch 1, skip next stitch* 3 times
  • slst to beginning sc

ROW 25 – 27

  • ch 1
  • sc in each stitch around, including the ch spaces
  • slst to first sc (54 stitches)
  • Fasten off and weave in ends.

STRAPS

Strap length can be adjusted by adding/omitting ch stitches.

  • ch 140
  • slst into the second ch from the hook and back across the remaining stitches
  • fasten off leaving an end that can be used to tie the ends of the strap together after strap is in place
  • Weave strap through ch spaces in Row 24, attach ends of the strap together to secure, pull to adjust straps, folding in the sides of the bag.
