YARN
Bernat Softee Cotton – 600 yards
I used Bernat Softee Cotton to make the pillow pictured but any yarn could easily be substituted with the modifications listed throughout the pattern.
HOOK
If you have chosen a different yarn, make sure to adjust your hook size accordingly.
ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES
- Pillow
- Measuring Tape
- Yarn Needle
- Scissors
PILLOW INSERT
I used a Karleksgras Pillow (16” x 16”) from Ikea but any sized square or rectangular pillow could easily be substituted.
NOTES
- Beginning chain DOES NOT count as a stitch
- I like to make my pillow covers 1 inch smaller than the pillow insert so it fits snugly, so I made my panels 15” x 15”
ABBREVIATIONS (US TERMS)
- slst – Slipstitch
- ch – Chain
- sc – Single Crochet
- dc – Double Crochet
PATTERN
MAKE 2: If you are modifying the pattern to use a different yarn, hook or pillow size, make note of any adjustments you make so that your second panel can be made with the same Row/Stitch count.
Ch 61 or any odd number of chains to adjust the size of the pillow.
ROW 1
- sc in the 2nd ch from your hook and each stitch across
- ch 1, turn
ROW 2
- sc in the first 2 stitches
- *dc in next stitch, sc in next stitch*
- Repeat from * to * across
- ch 1, turn
ROW 3 – 55
Repeat Row 2 until your panel reaches your desired height, for my pillow, I worked 55 rows.
ROW 56
- sc in each across
- ch 1, DO NOT turn
BORDER
Turn your panel clockwise and sc evenly down the side, place 2 sc in the corner stitch. Continue to sc around the remaining 3 sides, placing 2 sc in each corner, slst to beginning sc and fasten off.
FINISHING
Place your panels together, right sides facing out. Join your yarn to any corner, ch 1 and sc through both panels around 3 sides, when you reach the final side, place your pillow insert in between the panels and continue to sc through both panels until your reach your beginning sc, slst to join. Fasten off and weave in your final end (the rest of your ends should be hidden away inside your pillow).
